BMW has recently announced that large changes are on the horizon. BMW is under pressure from other large luxury auto manufacturers such as Mercedes and Audi to make some positive changes and solidify their place in the market. With those two auto manufacturers tightening the competition, they need to make some big changes in order to ensure that their profits do not decline.
Just like many other companies, the profits are what drives the growth, not necessarily the sales volume. This is a key component for BMW to take a look at because they not only need to sell a lot of vehicles in the future but they have to keep thing profitable. In order to continue to do this, they have to invest more into research and development and focus on innovation. This means that bringing new technologies to the table is a must and they have to continue to make new partnerships to do that.
According to the CEO of BMW, the results of all this this will be seen within the next five years. The company has developed a very clear objective to be an innovative leader in terms of technology within this digital age while also incorporating individual mobility. The company has already developed key partnerships with companies such as Intel and Mobileye to help them achieve these goals. At the core of their goal is the strive to develop the technology for autonomous driving within the next five years. Together with Intel and Mobileye, BMW will be able to use the various strengths to accomplish this, including the knowledge of automotive engineering, machine learning, computer vision, technology, and engineering.
Autonomous driving is a concept where the vehicles drive themselves and the driver does not have to do anything to get from one place to another. This is a future that many fear and because of this announcement, it is a lot closer than many have believed. If this timeline holds true, then there will be a completely autonomous vehicle that has been created and it may even be for sale as well.
While creating this type of vehicle is a feat in and of itself, it is only half of the issue. Before these autonomous vehicles can be placed on the roads to function on their own, there must be comprehensive legislation passed. It remains the top priority for auto makers to create vehicles that provide safety and protection to drivers, passengers, and pedestrians and that will remain at the top of the priority list. For it to really be successful and provide a safer driving experience for all, there must be a clear legal framework in place.
This means that while this concept is already on the mind of BMW, it will not be as easy as it may seem. Autonomous vehicles will become a reality in time and it may make a huge difference in the safety of all but only time will tell how this will really play out. Until then, we can continue to remain excited about the future of auto technology.
